Do candidates need to install anything?

Yes — one small Windows client that runs only during the session. It runs the test in a locked-down window, uploads the evidence, and stops when the test ends. Your team never installs anything; the HR console is a normal website.

Does Clevid stop all cheating?

Accepted Answer

No product can. Clevid blocks or detects the common vectors — other apps and overlays, screen sharing, virtual machines and remote sessions, virtual cameras, focus changes — and records continuous webcam evidence. What software cannot see (a phone off-camera, an earbud) is why every flag goes to a human reviewer instead of an automatic penalty.

Can a flag fail a candidate automatically?

Never. Flags land in a review queue with the footage attached. Your team dismisses them, requests a retake, or records a decision, and the candidate can appeal. Missing recording coverage is stated on the report; it is not turned into a score penalty.

What question types are supported today?

Multiple choice, short answer, and typing, with prompts and options rendered as safe Markdown including fenced code. Questions can be fixed for everyone or drawn per candidate from a bank by level (basic, intermediate, advanced). Coding challenges with an execution sandbox are on the roadmap.

Do I have to write my own questions?

No. Pick a subject and a level mix from the shared bank and publish. You can also author private questions one at a time, or import a whole subject file at once, and reuse them across assessments.

Which platforms does the candidate client support?

Windows today, with full lockdown. macOS support built on Apple’s Automatic Assessment Configuration is in progress and will ship with a clearly labelled assurance tier.

Are the practice courses really free?

Yes, for everyone, with no account required. Companies pay for assessments; candidates never do.

What does the Clevid client do on my computer?

Accepted Answer

During the test it keeps the test window in front, blocks other apps, overlays, screen sharing and the clipboard, and records your webcam. It checks the machine before you start (camera, virtual devices, remote sessions, extra displays). When you submit, it releases everything and stops.

Question 9

Does it read my files or browsing history?

Accepted Answer

No. It records the webcam, the name of the active window, and a list of running processes while the test is live. It does not open files, read browser history, or install anything that stays on the machine.

What if my internet drops or the app crashes?

Accepted Answer

Keep the client open: answers that could not be sent are marked and sent automatically when the connection returns. They are also kept, encrypted, on your computer, so if the app crashes, reopen it and enter your code to resume and send them. The deadline is enforced by the server, not by your computer’s clock.

Something got flagged. Am I disqualified?

No. A flag is a note for a reviewer, not a verdict. A person on the hiring team looks at the recording and decides. You can appeal through them, and they can grant a retake.

Can I practise before the real test?

Yes. The free courses include practice tests that run in the same client, so the environment is familiar before anything counts.

Does it work on macOS?

Not yet. Windows 10 and 11 are supported today. macOS support built on Apple’s assessment mode is in progress. If you only have a Mac, tell the company that invited you.

Who can see the recordings?

Accepted Answer

Only members of the organisation that ran the assessment, and only through the console, where every view is logged. Clevid staff do not review candidate recordings as part of normal operation.

How long are recordings kept?

Accepted Answer

For the retention period on the organisation’s plan, then they are deleted from storage before the database rows that referenced them. Deleting a candidate removes their recordings the same way.

Can a candidate decline or stop the recording?

Accepted Answer

No. Webcam and microphone recording is part of a proctored assessment. The candidate sees a versioned notice before starting, pressing Start accepts it, and that version is stored with the attempt. Someone who does not want to be recorded should not start the test.

Where is data stored?

Accepted Answer

Recordings live in private object storage; scores and events in a database scoped to your organisation. Enterprise plans can choose region and retention.
